DESTRUCTIVE FIRE
BIG BOSS IK OAMARU. FARMERS’ CO-OPERATIVE STORE. PIB PRESS ASSOCIATION. OAMARU, September 4. A destructive fire occurred this morning in the largo building of the North Otago Farmers'. - Co-operative Association. Tho fire was discovered shortly after 3 o’clock. The brigade responded promptly to the alarm, but the fire had obtained a strong hold on tho inflammable goods with which the building was stocked, and though there was a plentiful pressure of water, some hours were occupied in subduing the flames. The scene of the outbreak was a recent addition to the main building, and included a large showroom ana , some departments pf the ‘ general business. 1 ' To that part, which comprised little more than a third of the main structure, the hre was confined. Fireproof doors between the two parts greatly ■ helped the brigade. The amount of the loss cannot be ascertained as yet. but the insurance on the building and stock is stated to he about £49,000.
