COMING APPOINTMENT
DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION. STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER. Dr. Anderson, the present Director of Education, is to retire in a few years, remarked Mr C. J. Parr, Minister for Education, last evening, at the School Committees’ Conference, and when tho reappointment is made Air Parr hopes we will get tho very host man obtainable—a man who would bo a giant, a powerful leader. England and Scotland had both outstripped us in education, where once we led the world. While our school ago was still 14 years, in Scotland the ago was now 15V years, and there were three years’ continuation classes after that. He hoped tho best man_ we could got would he secured to direct our education, and he trusted we would not limit our choice to New Zelaand. A delegate: If you pay tho money you will get tho man I Mr Parr: I am pleased to say Cabinet has already gone into that, and authorised a sum which will put several hundred pounds on to tho salary.
