SUDDEN DEATH

COMMANDER G. G. HORNE. SERGEANT-AT-ARMS AT PARLIAMENT. Commander Cecil Greville Horne, Sergeant-at-Arms at Parliament, and one of the most familiar figures at the House, died suddenly from heart failure yesterday morning. “The sergeant.” who was well known to all who frequent Parliament Buildings. was well on in life, having passed his 75th year, and ho occupied the quarters allotted the holder of his position in the newly-finished portion of .Parliament ’House, At about half-past five yesterday morning tho Chairman of Committees. Commander Home was horn when his parents were on the way to Australia, where they settled. In hia youth the late sergeant went to England to study for tho Navy, which service he joined. He entered with a commission, and on various stations saw service. While on duty in the Pacific ho visited New! Zealand, and in 1330 ho maried Alias Rochefort©, a niece of Sir Maurice O’Rorke, and in the same year he waa appointed Sergeant-at-Arms in the Parliament of New Zealand. In ISBD he resigned and took charge of a gaol in New South Wales. In 1913 he was reappointed to the position of Sergeant-at-Arms. Air Horne’s first wife died some years ago, and his second wife was Aliss Catherine Jane Aleehan, who at present lives at Nelson. THE INQUEST. . In tho afternoon Air W. G. Riddell, S.AI., held an inquest touching the death. Evidence was given by Air A. 3. Alai, colm, who said that on his answering th© knock on the wall ho found the sergeant in a bad way. He got tho nightwatohman to look after Commander Homo and went for a doctor. Other evidence was to the effect that deceased did not last long after calling for help. Uttering an exclamation he fell back dead.
