TAXI-CAB CHARGES
MUST BE DISiPI/AYED IN CAR. Users of taxi motor-cars axe frequently constrained to complain of the rates levied by way of hire, but owing to jtheir lack of knowledge of the scale of charges provided for by City Counoil regulations, they take no action. Therefore, the information that li ; censed drivers are required, under the provisions of a by-law, to keep a copy of the said scale, together with the number of the car, displayed in a conspicuous place in the car, m9y be of general interest. This was made abundantly clear at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when William T. Chapman was charged by the City Corporation with failing to comply with the requirement referred to. The prosecutor pointed out that such neglect gave delinquents the opportunity of over-charging passengers. The magistrate; Mr FJ. Page, imposed a fine of £1 and 7s coste.
