A proposal that the Christchurch City Council, which is awaiting the decision of the Government on an '<pplication to borrow £200.000 for the erection of workers' homes, should, in thfl meantime, embark on. a much *n alter scheme than that proposed, was negatived at last evening's meeting of the council. Councillor Agar considered that the proposal to make a. start with .£IO,OOO was only playing with the matter. They had asked the Government for £200,000 and should not now talk of £IO,OOO until a definite answer was received. They knew that 20 hcuses sould not be, erected for £IO,OOO.
