RIFLE-SHOOTING
TARANAKI'S MEETING. CLOSE AND INTERESTING COMPETITIONS. The Taranaki Rifle Association's annual meeting was a distinct success. Wellington competitors who returned yesterday stated that the management was excellent, the shooting good, the competition keen, and tho general conditions satisfactory—except for the wind and a slight delay. Rflnin. D. Roots, of Hawera, who was Taranaki champion in 1912, and is an exNew Zealand champion, won the champion belt with a comfortable margin of 12 points. Rfimn. E. Ballinger, ot Wellington, was runner-up. linmn a. J. King, of Opaki, the present New Zealand champion, was eighth in tho aggregate. The teams' match fell to Hawera, who shot for the first time at the association ™ Captain HartneU, Lieutenant Andrew V.C., and Mr C. T. Mills did splendid worM on the range afiA in the trench. Captain Dallinger, group officer, was present during tho day and rendered valuable assistance. The secretary, Mr F J Hill, worked energetically. Following are some of the aggregate Aggregate-Rflmn.
