INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION
At a meeting of the Industrial Association, which was held last evening, the grant passed by the City Council recently for the purchase of the ground and building of the Technical College at a sum of £15,000 was discussed. Mr Ballinger stated that some years ago the property would have realised £IO,OOO. Since that time land had increased in value. The price asked for the land and building was £22,C00, which he considered was not in excess.
The matter is to be referred to tho Technical Education Board at its i.ext meeting. Some years ago the Industrial Association gave £ISOO towards part .. of tho Technical School building, and the Government gave a subsidy of £ISOO. A committee was set up" to get in touch with the Education Board with a view to getting it to take the building over at a cost of £3OOO. A' deputation from tho Industrial Association is to wait on the Government some time in November for the purpose of urging upon it the urgent necessiay for investigating the hydro-electric power scheme. Profit sharing was discussed in brief, and it was decided to leave in tho hands of the standing .committee the matter of arranging a lecture to te given dealing with this subject at a subsequent meeting.
