TEACHERS MEET
WELLINGTON BRANCH OF THE N.Z.E.I. A meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held last night: Mr A. McKeneie presided. . Mr W- W. Rowntree .. moved: That this branch of the • N.Z_E.I. strongly urge the executive to approach the Minister for Education, with a v,jew to obtaining the abolition, of average attendance from all computations in connection with schools. Mr Rowntree said, that the average attendance of scholars fluctuated considerably. In one suburban.school, an average of 95 children out of 520 were away during one week. In suburban schools the average attendance naturally dropped very low in .winter and improved during the summer. • On the suggestion of Mr Ballachy, the motion was altered to read as follows: "That this branch of the N.Z.E.I. strongly .urge -..the executive to approach the -Minister for Education with a view to obtaining the abolition of average attendance as a basis for staffing, salaries, and computation." I The motion as altered was carried.
