POLICE AND CIVIL BUSINESS. The morning parade of inebriates before Mr F. V. Frazer. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court vesterday was by no means a formidable one. The majority came under the heading of “first offender” and these received duo leniency. William Boyes, a little man with a big thirst, was not in a position to deny that ho had been helplessly drunk and tho magistrate deemed it advisable to remand him for a week for medical treatent. John Pryse. who admitted two previous convictions for drunkenness, was penalised in tho Sum of, £2 with the alternative of serving seventy-two hours in gaol and was also prohibited. Martin Ladbury and John Flannigan, each with one previous conviction, were fined 10s, with the option of forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. James Daly did not deny that ho behaved in a threatening manner while drunk in Courtenay place. His little frolic cost him 10s. with the alternative of remaining in «apl for forty-eight hours. TWO REMANDS. In the case "f Benjamin Henry Bright, alias Charles Beniamin Chapman, charg charged with theft from the person of Timothy Murray of a silver watch, gob chain and pendant, Acting sub-inspector Emerson applied for a remand till next Wednesday. This was granted, bail being fixed at .£IOO in accused’s own bond and a surety for a similar amount. A further remand till tomorrow was granted in the c-a.se of Lewis Edward Nicholas, who was charged with having received £1 ■9s 3d and failed to account for tho amount to Garrett and Co., butchers. Fraier, S.M., a warrant for possession of a tenement was given in the case of Mrs M. Scott v, J. McMillan. Costs amounting to £1 12s were allowed In a judgment summons case Mr Riddell ordered J. E. Simpson to pay William Campbell, Ltd., £3 19s Id by monthly instalments of 10s. A DISPUTED CLAIM. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., heard an action in which Stanton and Evans, motor experts and engineers, claimed from W. G. Goss, carrier, o f Upper Hutt. the sum of £55 Us 6d for repairs to a motor lorry. The defence was that tho claim was excessive, and there was also a counter-claim for £32 8s 7d lor further costs of repair that defendant claimed had to be done elsewhere, and for special damages. £25 was paid into court but. liability was denied. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £42 7s 6d, with costs totalling £5 16s Gd, and on the counter-claim judgment was for defendant for £6 17s Gd, with costs £2 6sMr W. L. Rothcnbnrg appeared for plaintiff and Mr O’. C. Mazengarb for the defendant.
