From Our Own Correspondent. MASTERTON, September 24. Mr B. Beattie, who was seriously injured in the collision between tho north train and a motor lorry ho was driving yesterday afternoon, may lose tho sight of one eye. Ho had a miraculous escape from death. Driver Jack Miller, of Masterton, has been invalided home, and is duo to reach New Zealand in a fortnight. tßwgonnt J. W. Clayson, M.M., of Ekctnhunn, has boon killed in action. Deceased was -Ifl years of age, and was formerly a well-known Ekotabuna footballer. Mrs Mary Barry, mother of Mrs O. Riddell, of Masterton, died at Ecilding on Sunday. Nnrso V. McCosh-Smith, formerly of Masterton. has resigned from the N.Z.A.N.S. She is to be married shortly. ’Private W. EL Gooding, of Fcathcrston, has been wounded in action. The. Masterton Red Cross fund Has now reached £6500.
