HOROWHENUA NOTES
From Our Olwu Correspondent. Tuesday. The Foxton .Racing Club has donated £2 2s toward the purchase of billiard tables for soldiers at the Otaki Sanatorium. Some £152 has now been donated, and arrangements are being ■made to install two tables without delay.
Owing to Mr Konrick, S.M., being unable to visit Otaki to-day the hearing of the petition against the recent electric lighting poll will not ho heard till April 20th. A counter petition, signed by Messrs W. F. Edwards, C. Kilsby, H. Nicolson, F. H. Bright, H. H. OHiver, and B. St. George has been lodged by-tbe Town -Board, which signifies tho board’s intention to oppose the former petition. Much interest centres in the appeal. Mr JR. C. Kirk will appear for the board, while Mr G. H. Harper will appear for the petitioners.
Despite \a strong requisition, Mr Alf. Fraser, Mayor of Foxton, has declined to again offer his services in that capacity.
A well-known Foxton native. Tuna Eori, has been adjudged bankrupt. His unsecured debts amount to £442 5s 9d, and his assets are £2O, cash in hand. A sum of £IOOO is also entered among the assets, representing debtor’s interest in the Himatangi block.
