SOLDIERS INJURED
ONE !N GRAVE CONDITION STRUCK BY ARM OF TABLET EXCHANGER. Press Association. AUCKLAND, October 12. A shocking accident, resulting in grave injuries to one of the Auckland recruits who left for Trontham to-day by a special troop train, serious injury to another, and minor injuries to two others, occurred as the train was passing through Taupiri station at about 6 p.m. The names of the men hurt are: Private Samuel McGee, dangerous injuries to right side of head. Alexander Hyland, serious laceration of left arm. Private Walter W- Chitty, minor injuries. Private Thomas Turner, minor injuries. Particulars regarding the accident are meagre. It appears the four men named were leaning out of the train at the time, and were struck by the arm of a tablet exchanger, which, for some unexplained reason, had failed to work. Hyland was standing on the platform; of a carnage, and McGee was at a window of the same carriage. Both were leaning out, and were struck by the iron arm of the apparatus before they could draw back. The other two men are believed to have seen the danger in time to avoid serious hurt. McGee 'and Hyland were too seriously injured to continue the journey, and were taken off 'at Frankton Junction and conveyed to the Hamilton hospital. McGee was unconscious and in an extremely grave condition, the nature of his injuries precluding much hope of his recovery.
