DROWNING FATALITY
BOAT CAPSIZES IN EVANS BAS'.
John Lloyd, a married man, residing in Hire pi street, and employed at Peter Hudson’s brick works, was drowned in Evans Bay about 2 o clock yesterday afternoon through the capsizing of a boat. The boat was a twelve-foot centre-board craft, and in it, besides the deceased, were John Flint Clark, of Tully street, Kilbirme, Harry Robert Wellsford, of 38, Hiropi street, and Ernest Thomas McDowell, of SO, Daniel street. When a little north of tho Dnifan Company’s laundry, the boat capsized, and the occupants woro , thrown into the water. Tho accident was noticed from the shore, and a party of men—G. Mendet,' F. C. Warner, and J. Murphywont out to . render assistance, Clark, Wellsford, and McDowell were slinging to the bottom of the upturned boat, but there was no sign 'of Lloyd, who was an elderly man. When tho boat was righted, the body of the deceased rose to the surface, and it is surmised that in the ‘ capsize he had become entangled with the rigging and was unable to extricate himself. Artificial methods of resuscitation wore immediately applied innd continued for half an hour without avail. Dr. Young, who was summoned, found the man dead. An inquest will be hold at a time yet to bo fixed.
