LEAGUE GAME
ELECTIONS TO OFFICE DISCLAIMED. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 20. At the formation of the new Rugby League Club in Christchurch on Monday night it was announced that Mr T. L. Cowlishaw had been elected president. Mr Cowlishaw has been prominently connected with Rugby football for some years, and is a vicepresident of the Christchurch Football Club. He says that naturally ho could not accept a position in a League club. Messrs C. H. Croxton and P. C. Freeth. who were elected vice-presidents of the League Club, state that in their case the election was made without their knowledge or consent. A similar explanation is made by Mr L. Guiney, who was elected secretary of the club. Dr Thacker, who is chairman of tho League Club, writes as follows to the newspapers;—“ln your report of the meeting last night the gentlemen nominated were elected honorary officials on their own approval, and have each been advised thus.”
