(Received May 18, 5.55 p.m.) LONDON, May 18. In a Birmingham suburb, three young men stopped a pretty suffragette who was carrying a can of tar and suffragette literature. They stripped her in the street, soaked her clothes in the tar, made a bonfire of them, and escaped. The suffragette took refuge in a cottage, where she borrowed some clothes.
Birmingham students, revenging the recent suifrageto outrages on the golf courses and in the cricket pavilion, visited the suffragette headquarters, smashed tho furniture and pictures, apologised, and departed.
GRANDSTAND AND OTHER BUILD INGS DESTROYED.
THOUSANDS OF POUNDS’ DAMAGE. LONDON, May 17. , The grandstand and other buildings on the racecourse at Oastle Bromwich were destroyed by fire. Several thousand of pounds’ worth of damage was done. Suffragette literature was found on tho course. ANOTHER SCENE IN COURT. LONDON, May 17. Hilda Burkett and Florence Monks were committed for trial for setting fire to tho Bath Hotel at Felixstowe. Evidence was given that the women were connected with the Yarmouth Pier outrage. Violent scenes occurred in court. The prisoners turned their backs cn the magistrate. Two wardresses and four policemen were required to keep them in their seats in the dock.
