BOMB OUTRAGE
IN MELBOURNE
INFERNAL MACHINE SENT THROUGH POST. THREE OFFICIALS INJURED. i3f Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received March 16, 10.40 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 16. Among the morning mails delivered to the Lands Department was a package addressed to a member of the Closer Settlement Board. When the package was opened there was a loud explosion, resulting in injuries to Mr Frederick Lee, a Closer Settlement Commissioner, and Mr Thomas Hastio, and Mr Reginald Jones. The room was partly wrecked, a window smashed, and tho ceiling shattered. Brass bullets and explosive material, supposed to be dynamite, operated by a spring hammer playing on a percussion cap, wore contained in a small wooden box. The package was posted in Sydney. There is no theory advanced as to the cause of the outrage.
