Austin (Taranaki Rifles), 96 points, 1; F.j Clarke (Gisborne City Rifles) and W.! Hickman (Wanganui Garrison), 95' points, 2. There were two other competitors. . 13 flat Cornet Solo.—R. Wills (Invercargill Hibernian), 90 points, 1; W. Francos (AVanganui Garrison), 86 points, 2. There were seven other' competitors. B flat Bass Solo.—T. Williams (St. Kilda Municipal), 100 points, 1; T.l Barton (Marton Royal), 98 points, 2, : There were two other competitors. The ’judge spoke enthusiastically of the performance of AVilliams, who gained the maximum of marks. Clarke (Gisborne City), 95, and W, Rickman (AVanganui Garrison), 95, equal, 2. THE BIG EVENTS, AUCKLAND, February 10. The first A grade and first B grade contests took place to-night. There were twelve bands in the A grade contest, which was not completed until after midnight. The B grade resulted; Invercargill Hibernian, 147 (out of 150) I Onehunga, 146 2 Whangarci, 145 3 Marton, 138 4 Other competitors were Waikato 136, Taranaki Rifles 133, Hawera 133, Na-: pier City 128, Wellington AVatersiders. 12G, Dargavillo 117.
