NEW ZEALANDERS ON TOUR LATEST 'MAIL NEWS. LONDON, January L Mr and Mrs W. Hoi'il, of Palmer--stoii, return to New Zealand early this year. Tho Misses Feldwiek intend to winter in Egypt, then go to Sicily, and return to England about next May. Callers at the High Commissioner’s Offices last week included the f0110.w.ing ; —D r . Randall Woodliouse, Dunedin; Mrs Sainsbury, Napier; Mrs M. Buckley, Dunedin; and Mr F. W. Houston.
Mr and Mrs Nelson Hobson (formerly Miss Rita Simpson, of Wellington) are among the guests spending New Year at Roekwood, with Mr and Mrs A. K. Watson.
Dr. and Mrs Zobcl, of Tc Kuiti, are shortly expected here on a visit to England and tho Continent, as is also Dr. Mcßae, of To Kuiti. The latter is going to Scotland. Mr and Mrs H. Livingstone Tapley, of Dunedin,’ who have motored all through England, spent Christinas in. Hampshire with relatives. They then went over to Paris, Switzerland, and Italy, and intend to catch tho Otranto at Naples on January 10th. Mr Zante Wood, of Wellington, who has had a six weeks’ motor tour through England and Scotland, has also heen to Paris, Switzerland, the Italian Lakes, and Venice,-- and shortly goes for some months to the Riviera, returning to England in March or April. Mr and Mrs Frank Galloway, late of Wellington, who have arrived from New Yor,k, expect to spend a month in London, and. to visit P'aris before returning to New Zealand. They have heen in the United States for about seven years, where Mr Galloway has been connected with tho Stone-, Webster Engineering Corporation. Professor and Miss Bickerton gave an “at home” last week to tho members of the Western Branch of the Astronomical Society. The Professorgave one of his interesting addresses with demonstrations, which was much appreciated by the numerous guests, many of Whom hailed from Australia and New Zealand.
The death has just taken place at Solsborough, Ennisoorthy, of Major Urban V. Richards, formerly of the Cameron Highlanders, 33rd Regiment, and the 87th. Royal Irish Fusiliers, and, the New Zealand local forces. He served in the Abyssinian War, 186768, and was at the storming and capture of Magdala. In 1870 he' retired from the 87th and subsequently,joined the Now Zealand Forces, and in a great measure the credit of the way in which the various contingents wore got ready for the South African War was due to him. He retired from the New Zealand Forces in 1903, and for some time past resided in Ireland. Professor F. P. Wilson, of Wellington, since his arrival, has been seeing as much as possible of the work at the London School of Economics. In Fob l ruary he leaves for Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
