UNREGISTERED BARMAIDS
LICENSEES FINED
Press Association. WANGANUI, February 9. At the Court to-day Holliday, licensee of Chavanne’s Hotel, was fined £1 for employing an unregistered barmaid. The defence was that it w r as an unintentional breach, the girl having been engaged at Auckland as a registered barmaid. Inquiries proved she was unregistered. TWO WRONGS DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT. Press Association. HAMILTON, February 9. During the hearing of a case at Hamilton to-day in which George Bodloy, licensee of tho Commercial Hotel, was charged with employing an unregistered barmaid, Mr Gillies, counsel for the defence, said it was quite a common custom in Auckland to employ unregistered barmaids as assistants in bars. The magistrate (Mr Rawson) said two wrongs did not make a right. He fined accused £5 and costs.
