CHRISTCHURCH V. WELLINGTON
POST AND TELEGRAPH MATCH. The annual cricket match between the, Christchurch and Wellington. Post and Telegraph Departments was played on the Basin Reserve yesterday afternoon. The wicket was good and slightly in favour of the batsmen, but the outfield was a trifle rough. Wellington were the first to go in, and knocked up the fine score of 343 before they were got rid of, Greig was the only one to reach the century, and his driving was really good, and ho was rather unluckv to got caught at mid-on by Gerard. His score was made up or seven, G's and eleven 4 SGraco also put up a creditable showing,and added 8;5 runs in good stylo before being dismissed by Thornton. He hit eleven 4's and three 6’s. Jackson (Wel-| lington) proved the right man in the right place behind the wickets, and hoj let very few chances slip him. .For the visitors Ford played careful cricket, not caring to take any risks with Phillips'and Grace's bowling, which was puzzling
and "dead ion,” but when ho did hit he put plenty of power into his strokes, and his score (26) consisted of six ifT'bornton also drove well, and fwn knocked up 33 (five 4’s and two bs). Grace bowled a good lengthy ball '' ltu a slight turn in from the • off, and he put up a good performance by ooulin,, seven maidens in ten overs. Ill© following are the scores;—
