STORY OF A SPY. Hr Telozrauh—Press Association—Copy rieliv LISBON, December 21. The spy Lancestre has disappeared. Ho was last seen at Vigo in the company of prominent Royalists. He asked Caldas, a journalist, to tell the police that he was always a Royalist, and had deceived tho police throughout. [A cable message received on November 14th stated: —The rising of. monarchists iu Lisbon in October was frustrated by a spy named Lancestre, an Oporto cycle agent. He ingratiated himself with the Royalists until ho was regarded as their most valuable agent. Lancestre, with the connivance of the Oporto police, was oven allowed' to effect the -escape of. a Royalist prisoner. Ho helped to smuggle arms into Portugal, and conveyed Royalists' correspondence abroad. He also effected the secret entry of two of the leaders —Captain Countinho -and Count Manqualdo—into Portugal, and kept tho Government aware of every Royalist action.]
