CHINA PARALYSED
PEOPLE TO FOREIGN ADVISERS. PORT DARWIN, August 4. The latest papers from China report that chaos is supremo there. The Chines© are firmly opposed to the appointment of foreign financial advisers. They contend that China must have a money scheme by patriotic subscriptions. The result has been a miserable fiasco. The treasury is empty, industries are largely paralysed, and internal divisions have arisen. China is in the tightest fix in her history. FOREIGN OFFICE DECLINES RESPONSIBILITY. (Received August 5, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, August 5. Tho “Daily Telegraph’s” Pekin correspondent reports that there is much comment at the appointment of Dr Morrison as political adviser to the President, and the handsome salary the post carries. The Chinese Foreign Office disclaims responsibility, and it is therefore apparent tho appointment ■was made by Yuan Shih Kai himself. “EVIDENCE OF SOUND SENSE.” VIENNA, August 5. Austrian newspapers applaud Dr Morrison’s appointment as evidence of the sound sense of the Chinese.
