KARORI BOROUGH
MEETING op the council.
The Karori"< Borough Council mot last evening, the'Mayor (Mr (J. Cathie) presiding. There were present Councillors Hildreth, Brn’daock, Hamilton, Stan den, Horn, and Burn. j • In coaueotiotr'with a conplaint made by the council in respect to a"car which, though going to tvarori Park, displayed only the sign “Karon,” and had the wrong destination lights showing, the city tramway traffic manager notified that the reason of the wrong name was that the screen did not inemde Karoii Park. In regard to the displaying of wrong destination lights, the men in charge of the car had been severely reprimanded. The city electrical engineer notified that the expenditure on the electrical installation up to March 31st was; Overhead equipment, .£3900; meters, £772; transformers, £413. A return of the number of lamps between Botanical gardens and Johnston street from April, 1911, to March 31st, 1912, showed that there were twenty of 300 candle power. The cost over this section for lighting was £ll6 17s 9d, and for repairs £3O 4s lOd. In November the arc lamps were replaced by Osrams, the cost of lighting showing a substantial reduction in consequence. From 'April Ist, 1912, to July 9th, 1912, the cost over this section for lighting and repairs was lespectively £3l 18s 2d and £1 18s 6d. Between Johnston street and Karori Park there were thirty-five 100 candle power Osrams. Tho respective cost of lighting and repairs from April, 1911, to March, 1912, was £l9 0s 7d and 8s lOd. From April Ist, .1912, to July 9th, 1912,- the cost was respectively £7 7s 7d and Gs 7d. The total cost of car mileage was £5234 4s. The amounts toid to the city council during 1911-12 were :—Tramway tract, lighting, and repairs, £147 2s 7d; tramway extension rrack lighting and repairs, £l9 9s sa; street lighting, £290 15s 6d; car mileage, £5254 4s; private lighting, £I2OO. Total, £6911 11s 6d. '
In connection with the recently changed tramwcy time-table, it was decided to ask the council whether the late special car (which now leaves town earlier than formerly) could not he held back to its former time of departure. It was pointed out that the Karo.'i Council had no knowledge of the alteration. The new arrangement would be extremely inconvenient to tho residents of Karori.
