POLICE UNIFORMS
CHANGE IN DRESS PENDING,
A six foot policeman dressed.in a new type of uniform attracted some attention in Parliament Buildings yesterday. The Commissioner of Police (Mr J. Cullen) is in favour of a change in the dress of the force, and he has had a sample uniform made, something similar to that worn by tho English police. Tho tunic, of dart blue serge, has two pockets in front, similar to those of a military uniform. Tho coat is “cut away,” something like a sac suit, and tho collar is not turned down, but stands up straight. Instead of a shako thero is a largo dark helmet, as worn in Australia. The policsman in question was sent as ah ‘‘exhibit" to the Minister for Justice (Hon. A. L, Herdman). Tho uniform looked quite smart. Mr Herdman, in iw-piy to a question, informed a PTimep” representative last night that Cabinet had not yet. been asked to sanction a change of dress in the force. Tho question would be considered in duo course.
