LIGHTING RETURNS
INCREASED REVENUE.
A statement of revenue and expenditure in the electric lighting department for June was submitted at yesterday's meeting of the power stations and tramways committee of the city council. Tlie revenue for the month amounted to Xdlll, an increase of XIIG3 as compared with the corresponding month last year. The working expanses totalled X 2337. or X32(i more than last year.
After providing for the proportion of the year s capital charges, there is a net credit balance lor the first quarter of this financial* year of XTi/30, as against X 3595 last year, an inciease of XT335.
During the month of Juno, HO new connections were made, bringing the total number of connections now in use up to 7039, an increase of 1392 connections during the last twelve months. Private lighting revenue increased from X 3912 to X-t3SS. Generating expenses per unit fold last mouth were l.lSd, against 1.27 d last year. Total working expenses per unit decreased from 2.12 d to 2.OGd. The gross surplus per unit sold showed an increase of .Aid.
