MANITOBA’S GOOD GRAIN YIELD. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright OTTAWA, December 7. In Manitoba province 'the grain yield is 160,000,000 bushels—oats 74,000,000, barley 30,000,000. The yield is the most prosperous for the past decade. SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC IN QUEBEC OTTAWA, December 7. A smallpox epidemic lias broken out in the Quebec province. Half the population * is unvaccinated, although vaccination is compulsory. TELEPHONE TRAIN-DISPATOHING OTTAWA, December 7. In Montreal the telephone train-dis-patching system adopted in August last, when the Canadian Pacific Company abandoned the unsatisfactory telegraph system, has been reinstated. PROTECTING THE FISHERIES. (Received December 8, 10.20 p.m.) OTTAWA, December 8. A separate Department of Fisheries will be established-,by the Federal Government. Steps are to' be taken to further protect the fisheries of the Pacific against American poachers.
