FIRE AT KATOOMBA
SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY LIGHTNING. By Telezraj.li—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, October 10. A big fire started early this morning in the business centre of Katoomba. There are no fire appliances in the town, and firemen were sent from Sydney. ' The fire is supposed to have been caused by lightning. It destroyed Mullauey’s largo store, but was prevented from spreading to other buildings. The damage is estimated at about £15,000. BIGGEST IN THE TOWN’S HISTORY (Received October 11, 1.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 10. Tho Katoomba fire was the biggest that has occurred in the town.. Tho damage is now estimated at £IB,OQO. Crowds watched the blaze throughout tho night. Katoomba is 66 miles from Sydney, on the western railway line, and is 3350 feet above sea level. The population is about 2000. . • ■
