CHAOS IN NEW HEBRIDES THE FRENCH ADMINISTRATION. COMPLAINTS BY MISSIONARIES. By Telegraph — Press Association— Copyrie’h.t MELBOURNE, August 4. The Rev. Air Baton, secretary of the Presbyterian Foreign Missions, states: that letters from Presbyterian mU-| sionaries more than confirm Bishop Wilson's statements regarding the oppression of New Hebrides natives. The New Hebrides 'Synod, in annual session, drew up a minute stating that j cases of irregularities were so mmier-, ous as to lead to wonder if there was ; any hope of redress against wrongdoers; who happen to be under French jurisdiction. A minute adopted, after making charges of illegal supplying of liquor, kidnapping, and flogging of natives, j and offences against morality, urges, | In the interests of justice and for the advancement of civilisation of tho uatives, tho Homo authorities to make the strongest possible representations to the French Government that the provisions of tho Convention should bo enforced without fear or favour upon all under French jurisdiction. The Syond absolutely repudiated the absurd and groundless charges made in the French Chamber by the late Governor - General of Madagascar .against Presbyterian missionaries in tho New Hebrides.
