DEATH OF A YOUNG WOMAN. CHRISTCHURCH, August 2.

At an inquest in the hospital this morning concerning tho death of Lena Buchanan, aged twenty-two, married, a verdict was returned that death was duo to septicaemia, following child-birth. Tho medical evidence was to the effect that the case was an extremely bad one, but the doctors could not say where tho infection came from. The nurso who attended the patient was unregistered. She was positive she took all tho necessary precautions. It was suggested that as two, people had died in the same house tho building might contain disease germs.

Xhe coroner remarked that an unregistered nurse ran a great risk in undertaking such a case.

One doctor, in his evidence, said there were hundreds of unregistered women practising as midwives in Christchurch.
