Strike pickets arc busy endeavouring to prevent men from signing for work on tho Queensland sugar-fields-Many of those engaged join tho strike camps on their arrival at the fields. RAILWAY LABOURERS’ STRIKE. BIUsFaNE. July 12. Forty-five labourers employed on tho construction of tho Western Railway have struck for an increase of wages from nine to ten shillings a day.
AFFRAY AT CARDIFF CHINESE REPULSE STRIKERS. (Received July 12, 11.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 12. In connection with the strike at Cardiff some seamen beard that a vessel in tile docks contained Chinese. A boatload of pickets evaded the police, boarded the vessel, and rushed to the forecastle, where tho Chinese faced them with drawn knives. The pickets withdrew, and contented themselves with pelting the Chinese with coal.
