SYDNEY FACTORIES

A CONSIDERABLE INCREASE.

By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright.

(Received July 11, 10.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 11,

Tho annual report of the Labour Department shows that tho number of registered factories is 4533, employing 79,972 persons. The numbers last year were 4259 factories, with 75,158 hands, so that there is an increase for the year of 274 in the number of factories and of 4814 in tho persons employed. Only 5.9 per cent, of the employees registered this year are under sixteen years old. The increase would have been much greater if labour had been available to meet tho demands. Never before has there been such a shortage of skilled labour.

Tho reports from the country districts are as favourable as those from tho city.
