PALMERSCTON, January 12. At the meeting of the Fire Board today reference was made to the damage done at yesterday's Dunedin fire through the igniting of packing cases in a yard. It was stated that there is great danger in many towns from the inflammable material left in the yard of business places in the shape of packing cases, straw, cite. Superintendent Warner reported that ho intended to prosecute careless occupiers, and this course was unanimously approved. Tho Feilding Fire Board discussed the recent fatal lire at Hastie's Hotel. Mr Ewen, representing the insurance companies, said an experienced brigade could have put the fire out in a few minutes. Mr Hugo reported that while an experienced brigade might have subdued the fire, the Feilding brigade did all that could have been expected of it. It waa decided to have an analysis of asbestos roofing tiles used on the hotel which were said to have exploded to great danger of tho public and firemen.
