A LABOUR BABE IN A POLITICAL WOOD

(To the Editor "N.Z. Times.’! Sir, —Mr' McLaren’s, M.l’., . first political escapade was an _ organising ■excursion, to' Australia, which made a certain amount o-f verbal wool fly, hut nothing practical came out of'it.' Now ho is doing a fly locally, ostensibly on the same errand, but with the 1 differlence of a new light. According to •him there is not as much as a three by two framing as a start for a poli-jtioal-labour dwelling-house. On his triji to Australia he did not even set the piles, and” now we find him hunting for the first foundations. _ Nearly twenty years of labour legislation and no policy in sight, and why? Lack of -calibre in the leaders. Mr McLaren cays he has seen his first session. True for him, and with what result? His extinction as a political-quantity already . negligeable, and with him those who sent him there —and, no amount of his stumping the country will make any difference. —I am, etc., HENRY EO'DLEY. Wellington, January 10th.
