DAVIS STREET CROSSING

(To tha Editor "N.Z. Times.’')

■Sir, —Will some awful catastrophe take place before the Government warn the public by some other signal 'than, the ordinary whistle of the engine, of this extremely dangerous crossing? In the House a question was asked by Mr Hordman as to what the Government intended doing . regarding the Hud-leou-Mardon patent automatic danger isignal for railway crossings, for which •a trial by the patentees was (asked, and the Minister (replied that nothing (would ,bo done. Now, sir, in the face ■of the fact that an exhibition of this (invention had been given in the presence of the Minister for Railways, the General Managpr, the signalling engineer, and many other notable engineering experts, in Whanganui, where 'the machine is installed on the Oastleicliff railway, it seems strange that a trial will not be allowed at either ©avis or Bunny streets, or both, and ■■as I, fear some terrible accident will Occur, I trust to you sir, in tire interest of humanity, to urge upon the Government the immediate necessity of (installing some effective danger signal I at'this crossing! I may mention that ■at the exhibition given in Whanganui the working of, the machine gave comiiplete satisfaction to all those who witnessed it.—l am, etc., DANGER. January 10th.
