THE WOOL MARKET

HEALTHY OUTLOOK FOR CROSS- . BREDS. The slight decline in merinos at the current London sales was not unexpected at Home. Writing of the outlook ou dune 4th Weddcls say:—“The tone continues good, and from the manufacturing and other centres there are no indications of anything but a very sound position. At tho same time, it* must be borno in mind that an almost continuous advance in the values of all grades has been taking place since the beginning of March, and if tho market quietens down to a slight extent during the next few weeks, it need occasion no surprise. There is this also about the position, that there will no doubt be some holders of direct importations of merinos who will not stand out for the full advance registered in this market' at last sales, and who will bo content with somewhat less handsome profits. Tho American situation looks well, and a continuance of support from that quarter is to be expected. In crossbreds there is a healthy outlook, especially in the ordinary rough qualities there should bo room for improvement, the difference in values between a 40's and 60's tops, namely, 12ifd, as against 26R1, being more than would seem to be reasonable."
