WORDS OF WISDOM

SOMETHING FOR THE DAIRYMAN TO STUDY. A Palmerston visitor to the Waikato winter show, whose identity is not disclosed, has been pouring some words of wisdom into the ear of a representative of tho "Waikato Times." He was speaking of the dairy industry in the Waikato, and referring to the part played by the producer he gave expression to one of the best sermons on milk production wo have read.

He said it behoved every dairyman to look to his herd with the view ahead that every cow should bo a payable item in the ledger. It also meant that the greatest care should be taken in the careful and clean handling of milk, and to this end every dairy farmer should remember ("it should- be glued in the lining of his hat," was how he put it) that the only way to ensure the production of an article that would hold its own either in a competitive class or in the markets of the world was to each work not only for his 1 own good but also for the good of his. neighoour, because one man who was neglectful in cleanliness, or lacking in the feeling of patriotism to his fellow suppliers, not only spoiled his own chance but that of all his neighbours, as well as seriously prejudicing and affecting the whole of the output. . . PRAISE FOR AN EXPERIMENT STATION.

The Waikato dairy farmers were in a unique position, for they had at their right hand, a (iovernmeut experimental station where they couicl obtain the best advice. If they did not take advantage of that institution then he feared that uiey were almost callous to tneir own oetterment, for many men whose energies were concentrated on tne production of butter of unassailable quality \'ould jump at the chance of Having such a station at hand, which coma ueip them in gaining the ideals they v.er© striving for.
