LOWER VALLEY' NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FIiATHiiIISTOX, September 11. The South Wairarapa Hospital Trustees are considering the question of raising tho weekly charge to patients from 20s to oOs a week, owing to the extra cost of materials. The Featherstoa Rifle Volunteers decided last night at a meeting to hold an invitation military social on ihuisday, October Ist. 'An executive committee was set up to make all neccssa ry arran gemonts. Tho Carterton Gun Club has decided to hold a live pigeon match on October Ist, 1 to bo limited to members of clubs in tho Wellington province. The prize money is to bo £25, divided into throe prizes, viz., first £1), second £5, third £3. Tho valuer’s report on the Loyal Groytown Lodge of Oddfellows is very satisfactory. It shows a surplus tf £445 which amount can bo divided amongst their members as their rules direct.

The Foathorston County Council held its monthly meeting at Martinborough to-day. Councillor A. Matthews was in the chair. The receipts for the month wore £1431 10s 2d, and accounts amounting to £GBS 4s 2d were passed for payment. The application of Wilkinson and Lyforcl for a slaughterhouse license at Tauhcronikau was approved. The transfer of J. T. White's slaughterhouse license to Messrs Purcell and Vincent was approved. It was resolved to recommend that the grant of £l5O for To Awnite road be expended on the stretch between Waipawa and Cabbage Tree Flat, A subsidy of £455 4s was received from the Treasury. An account from A. E. O’Xeale for drain cleaning was left to the overseer and Councillor Jackson. The ranger reported having impounded fifty head of stock during the month. Mr E. J. Biddiford applied to have a blocked drain cleared and the matter was left to Councillors on that side of the County. The Department of Ronds wrote with reference to the application for a grant of £SOO for Wha-ne-aehu-Whakarna road metalling, and stated same would have consideration.
