“C.B.'S” RETIREMENT
PARLIAMENT ADJOURNED TRIBUTES TO THE LATE PRIME MINISTER. HIS STATE OF HEALTH.

Mi; Asquith, Chancellor of the Exchequer, who was summoned by King Edward on the resignation of the Premiership by Sir Henry CampbellBannerman, has started for Biarritz to meet his Majesty. Parliament has adjourned till April 14th.
Before the adjournment warm tributes to the late Prime Minister’s character and services were paid in tho House of Lords by the Marquis of Bipon (Lord Privy Seal) and the Marquis of Lansdowne (Foreign Secretary in tho Balfour Cabinet), and in the House of Commons by Mr Asquith, Mr Balfour, and Mr Redmond.
Sir H. C. Bannerman’s retirement has evoked many public expressions of sympathy.
The Central Committee of the Manchester Conservative Association unanimously passed a resolution of profound regret that the state of Sir Henry’s health necessitated his resignation, and expressing the earnest hope that he will long be spared to enjoy in retirement the respect and esteem in which he is held by men of all political parties.
During the last few days Sir H. O. Bannorman’s health has been no worse. He takes interest in current events. FURTHER PRESS COMMENTS. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF MR ASQUITH. LONDON, April 7. The “ Standard ” contrasts Sir H. Campbell-Bannerman's and Mr, Asquith’s sympathies and methods, and concludes, “It will be necessary for Mr Asquith to rely on the centre, not the left.”
The “ Telegraph ” says:—*“ The country expects Mr Asquith to show greater firmness, and to yield less to the extreme Radicals than Sir H. CampbellBannerman has done, and to bring the Irish policy more into accord with tho elementary principles of good government.” SUFFRAGISTS ALARMEDA FIGHT TO THE BITTER END. LONDON, April 7. Mrs Pankhurst, the suffragist leadfer, addressing a mass meeting at Lancaster, declared tint Mr Asquith’s Premiership meant for tho suffragists a fight to the bitter end. They must, she said, nerve themselves for the fray.
