Maniapoto was a bit sore in his work this morning, but it is not thought to be anything serious. He continues to share favouritism for the Cup with Tartan at 6 to 1. Gladsome was supported for a few thousand, and hardened to 10 to 1, Blue Spec is quoted at 15 to 1. After Canteen -had been backed to win £3OOO, 35 to 1 was the best offer. AVarroo and Scot Free stand at 10 to 1, Emir 11 to 1, Marvel Loch 14 to 1, while Torah is weak at 20 to 1. Lady AVallace continues to hold pride of position in the Derby quotations, 7 to 4 being on offer against her. THE C.J.C. MEETING.

CUP CANDIDATES AT RICCAETON, CHRISTCHURCH, November 3.

This morning was beautifully fine, and the tracks in excellent order. Paritutu and Douche galloped six furlongs on the plough in linin 18)sec, Paritutu easily defeating bis companion, which came as a surprise after hia poor display yesterday. Calibre easily disposed of Golden Knight over six furlongs in Imin 19 2-ssec. Achilles and Ghoorka raced over a mile and a quarter on the grass in 2minl2seo. Achilles, going better throughout than bis companion, finished five lengths to the good. The performane was one of the best gallops of the weak. Ghoorka was probably carrying more weight than Achilles, so bis display, too, is satisfactory, Chivalry boat Marguerite over six furlongs, run in Imin 15 3-secc—a very attractive performance. Mabutonga easily disposed of Veneer over six furlongs on the plough, which was run in Imin 18sec, and may perform better tomorrow than was generally anticipated. Pas Seul defeated Black Diamond over six furlongs, while Petticoat dashed over half a mile in 50 2-sseo. Convoy and Beau Seaton finished together at the end of six furlongs, which was run in Imin 19 4-s»c, from a standing start. Solution ran five furlongs, the last half mile being covered in 48|sec. Ailsa, Vladimir, and Apollodoris raced over half a mile, Apollodoris, who bad the best of the start, finsibing in front. St, Joe ran four furlongs, whilst Black Reynard and Ballarat galloped six furlongs on the grass, Black Reynard having his companion well beaten all the way. Ballarat’s display was very disappointing. The majority of the horses worked did light tasks.
