THE LAND SCANDAL.
CHARGE AGAINST MR CRICK. ALLEGED REWARD TO A MINISTER OF THE CROWN. COURT PROCEEDINGS. (Received November 2, 9.49 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 2. Hie hearing of the charge against W. P. Crick, M.L.A., of having accepted, when ho was Minister of Lands, a reward of £250 in connection with Crown leases, was continued to-day. Mr Crick occupied the greatey part of the day in an exhaustive crossexamination of Mr Peter Close, with reference to tho land transactions over which an alleged division of commission took place, and in regard to Mr Crick’s borrowing transactions with Mr Close’s firm. Mr Crick indicated that his object was to show that hie treatment of land exchanges was departmentally correct, and in the interests of the public! Mr Close admitted that that was so. Mr Pilcher, for the Crown, pointed out, that the gravamen of tho charge was not whether Mr Crick had administered the department properly or improperly, but whether as Minister he had received a gratuity.
