BASELESS CHARGES.
RELIGION AND POLITICS.
(Received October 25, 11.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 25. The Select Committee appointed by the Legislative Commission has furnished a report on its inquiry into the truthfulness or otherwise of an allegation made publicly on several occasions by the Rev W. Wools Rutledge, to the effect that a certain public officer (Mr Hall, the Acting Government Statistician), was unable to obtain rc-employ-ment in the public service until ho joined tho Roman Catholic Church, and that immediately upon his doing so he was re-employed at a salary of £IOOO a voar.
Hie Commission finds that the statements made by Mr Rutledge were without foundation.
