SERIES OF EARTHQUAKES.
PANIC IN A CHURCH. LONDON, August U. A series of earthquakes lasting nine hours was felt at Macao (a Portuguese settlement situated on an island at the mouth of the Canton river, China). Slight shocks were also felt at Hongkong. A shock is reported from Chamounix (a celebrated resort for tourists in the Department of Hante-Savoie, France), where the walls of one of the churches cracked, and the congregation fled in panic, expecting the building t* collapse.
