(By ‘Linesman.’’)

The less said about last Saturday’s games the bettor. It was easily the worst day experienced at Miramar this season, and perhaps one of the very worst Saturdays over experienced by local soccer players. The rain came down in sheets, quite spoiling all the play. A start was made in the Swifts A—B and Rovers—St. John’s games, but at the end of the first spell the players l cried enough, and the games wore consequently abandoned. As things wore, St. Johns and Swifts A might have experienced defeats.

Y.M.O.A. did net turn up to play Queen's Park. Most of the junior games were concluded and this specks volumes for the ort.husia.sm of the juniors. Swifts, two men short, went out and defeated Porima, also two short, by five goals to one. St. Johns A forgot to go out to play Tea. The sensation of last week was the defeat of Ramblers A by St. John’s B by 2 goals to nil. Admitted that Ramblers zero playing two substitutes, they surely ought to have accounted for St. Johns B, who had not previously won a game.

The Swifts Club this wAek have lost one of their best and meet popular players in Jack Macdonald, who returned to Dunedin on Thursday to open in business on his own account. “Mac” has been a member of the Swifts sinoe the year of the club’s formation (189-1), and has played in every position except that of goalkeeper. Ho has twice re--1 piesented Wellington province and represented Otago before coming to Wellington. On Wednesday evening, members of the Swifts Club met together and Mr F. J. Courtney, club captain, presented -Mr Macdonald, on behalf of his elnbm.ites, with a handsome silver tea-ser-vice, as a mark of esteem.

Tho following alteration in the Laws of the Game are clipped from the “Athletic Nows”;—

In Rule 1. insert after words “more than 28 inches” the following: “Tho outer casing of tho ball must be of leather, and no material shall be used in the construction of tho ball which would constitute a danger to the player’s.”

In Rule 9, after “push in opponent” the following was added: "Charging is permissible but it must not be violent or dangerous,” and instead of “impeding an opponent” the word "obstructing” was substituted. Rule 10 will for future read: “When a free kick has been awarded the kicker’s opponents shall not approach within six yards of the ball, unless they arc standing in their own goal line. The ball must at least be rolled over before it shall be considered played. It must make a complete circuit or travel the distance of its circumference. The kicker shall net play the ball a second time until it has boon played by another player. The kick off. corner kick, ami goal kick .shall be free kicks within (he meaning of this law.
