Tlio south-westerly gale which sprang up yesterday continued throughout today, and had the effect of causing the Australia to settle further down on the rocks. It has been found impossible to continue salving operations. In reference to the reports that Pilot Dennis’s health had been unsatisfactory for some time and of his sudden seizure on the bridge of the Australia, the Marine Board, it is explained, at present has practically no supervision of pilots in this respect from the time they are admitted into the service till they retire at the age of sixfy years. Amongst tlio Australia’s passengers is Mr S. Lack, of the Eastern Extension Cable Company’s service, who was transferred from Perth to Cable Bay, New Zealand.
