TRADE WITH JAPAN.
THE POSITION IN THE EAST.

A Japanese Commissioner lias arriveto inquire into colonial land legislation and construction of public works. After visiting tho various Australian States ho will proceed to Now Zealand. Ho says there is plenty of room for tho expansion of trade between Japan and Australia-. Although there is a good deal of resentment at Australia excluding tho people from tho East, that, says the Commissioner, in"* not affected the desire for trade. Tho Anglo-Japaneso alliance, he states, has done a great deal to steady tho position in tho East.
