ADMIRAL BEDFORD.
THE NEW GOVERNOR OF WEST AUSTRALIA. (Piccoived January 22, 10.35 p.m.) LONDON. January 22. Head-Admiral Sir Frederick Bedford tho newly-appointed Governor of West Australia, at tended a gathering at the Colonial Club. Mr H. B. Lefroy, Agent-General for tho State, said it was particularly appropriate that a distinguished sailor should represent tho King as Governor of West Australia. Governors were the only'’ visible Jink of the State's connection with tho Motherland, and ho trusted they would never cease to exist am always be directly appointed by tho Imperial Government. Admiral Bedford, in reply, said bo had accepted the responsibility of Governorship with misgivings, but they had boon much lessened by the cordial in ossago ho had received from West Australia. There was no higher reward for officers than a Governorship, and lie would do his best to show the Sovereign that bis confidence bad not been misplaced.
