HAWERA SHOW.

SECOND DAY. (By Our Special Reporter.) HAW ERA, November 27. Tho i-gmont Agricaiiural and Pastoral Association wax c\idcnGy instituted under an unlucky slur, .for the fates have invariably been unkind to it. To-day was no exception, a howling gale from the norm, v> il»i driving rain, necessitating the postponement of the show to Saturday. in tho afternoon, however, the nun cleared off, but beyond the i;.\mou of machinery and the display in the produce shed, there was nothing to attract the visitors who had arrived by train, anti these thronged tho town tali the departure c-f return trains. In order to m-vt tho convenience cf judges and exhibitors, -the thoroughbred and draught rival Lems, dairy cow*, dogs and poultry were judged. Tho jumping, wood-chopping and sawing competitions were postponed to Saturday. The thoroughbred lie-rses shown wore of -excellent quality. T. Glynn’s St. Paul, by St. Leger—Sat an oil a, was awarded tho championship from four others in the stallion class. In . the hackney class, one sire was exhibited, J, W. Burke’s Mangatoki, which horse won in the class for carriage sire. There were only two aged draught entries shown, and the old champion, Giennglo, lost to .lames Grant’s General Wheeler. Isaac Lupton won with Osborne in the three-year class, and F. A. Brenner with Federation in tho two-year class. The Government horse Danger Signal was on -exhibition, and was greatly admired.

Thcro was excellent competition in tho four dairy cow classes, thirty-two competing in all. The prize-winners wero all of a good type, but no animal calls for special mention. George Loft won iu the aged class, and C. Goodson gained first distinction for a springer, both animals being grade Jerseys. There were two classes for two heifers. In the first, S. G. Potter Avon with two HoLtcins and A. S. Touks was first in tho second class with (wo crossbred Jerseys. Tho old show-yard test was wisely abandoned, but nothing was provided ni its place—a mutter for regret iu such .an important dairying centre as Hawora. Tho competition in pigs avus much more representative than is usually uie case at North Island shows. Tho loading Palmerston breeders—J. Jarvis, Slack Bros, and J. ’White —competed, and they met several Taranaki breeders for tho first time this season, biack Bros, wero tho principal prize-takers in Berkshire's, J. V/luto was tho only exhibitor in Yorkshires, and J. Jarvis scoured all the principal honours in Tarnwort h.s.

Tho display of featliorod stock was poor in both numbers and quality. One or two birds « oro of exceptional quality, and stood out in strong contrast to tho remainder. Those wero a Plymouth Rock hen (W. Goodland), two pairs of Langshans (W. L. Ulonnorhassott), aid a pair of Cuff Orpingtons (.L. 0. Hook). Ono or two fair ducks wore shewn. Tho accommodation for tho exhibits was poor, and this, with tho small prizemoney, was perhaps responsible for the few entries, rthrec entries making up tho largest class. Dogs wore again a rather weak selection. In nearly every case there was only cue deg in a class. \V. A. Smith, of Napier, showed two of his fine foxterriers. There were several fair collies, and in this class there was a little competition. On the whole, tho quality was disappointing.'' CHAMPION AWARDS. Sheep—Lincoln ram and ewe, W. H.
