LAND SETTLEMENT.

PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, November 27. In response to a telegram from tho Premier congratulating him on his election to Parliament, Mr J. H. Withoford wired to Mr Seddon: —“ Thanks for kind congratulation. If you wish to retain ‘ marked confidence ’ it is necessary that yonr Minister for Lands shall havo the courtesy to send mo a businesslike aud suitable reply, as promised in the House, to my application, and also to correspondence asking what facilities the Government will givo to men with fanning experience, with or without capital, to settle upon tho Crown lands of tho North Island.” To this tho Premier replied:—“You may rest assured that tho settlement of tho people on the land, including returned troopers, will receive prompt attention. In fact, tho Chief Commissioner of Lands has been sent up to Auckland for tho purpose of seeing what can bo done as to getting some land at once in’the market . I regret that your representations in the past havo not met with better success, "Will confer with tho Minister of Lands as soon as ho arrives in 'Wellington.” To-day Mr Withoford sent a further list of names of men desiring to obtain land for settlement, making a total of 436.
