CONCERT AT THE SKATING RINK. 'The tableaux arranged by the Misses Youmanswill he present ed at the Skating Kink to-morrowevening. The programme appears in this issue. Besides the tableaux, (here will be a number of vocal and instrumental items and dances. The proceeds will go to the fund for the purchase of full dress uniforms for tho Highland Rifles. In opening the ball, tho Rev. W. C- "Waters spoke briefly on the energy and enierpriso shown by tho dub, and congratulated members on the work they had clone in the past. Songs and recitations were given during tho (-veiling, and the proceedings t erminatod with a comedy in one act by inr T. .1. 'Williams, entitled, “Twccdleton’s Tail Coal.” Tho Empire Company commenced its season at Palmerston North last evening- The company will re-appear at tho Federal Hall, Manners street, on Saturday night. A full rehearsal for tho fifth annual carnival was hold at tho Wellington Physical Training School, and tho various items on the programme were gone through without a hitch. Those who take an interest in physical culture should book their scats early, as tickets are selling rapidly. Sir Joseph Ward, tho president of the institution, has promised to attend. As upwards of, three hundred take part in tho display, some idea may bo formed of what is being done for the cause of physical culture by this school.
