THE PRODUCERS’ UNION

At the meeting of farmers and pro«» ducers at Pahiatua on. Monday evening! the following were adopted as the objects and platform of the Producers’; Union: Objects.—l. To foster and further the! unity and material welfare of nil fio> ducers of raw or country produce from land—such as wool, meat, butter, flax, fruit, etc. 2. To obtain better means Of communication and access to markets, 1 and improve the methods of sale andi general controf of produce. 3. To obtain practical assistance by legislation and administration, so that fair market prices bo assured for all products; steps to be taken to obtain an international arrangement for this purpose. Platform:—l. Roadl facilities, cheap railway and steamer freights, storage,: etc. 2. Employment of experts in open, ing, developing and extending markets, and assistance by subsidy or bonus where necessary with that view. 3. Establishment of experimental farms in at least twenty divisions of the colony,; and importation and breeding of stud stock, with a view to bring our flocks and herds to the highest pitch of ex cellence in each locality. 4. Combination and co-operation, to maintain fair prices for produce, and resist persons or companies who aim at unduly exploiting the profits of producers. 5, Promotion of prosperous settlement; bush lands to be rent free for two years, and half rent for a further two years;, residence to he not compulsory for seven years, provided double improve* meats he made; construction of roads, where necessary, before cr immediately after selection of lands. Formation and metalling with expedition of roads to ■ or through lands already settled; allowance to settlers in rent where ianda are loaded for roads which aro unmade. 6. Extension of the functions of the Advances tc. Settlers’ Office, to enable borrowers under the Act to procure cheap money ' in small amounts for short periods-
